Holi Week and Ganga Mela: Timing Around Kanpur's Festivals

Kanpur's Holi does not end in a day. Colour play goes on in parts of the old city until the Ganga Mela, about a week later, when a big procession sets out from Hatia and the ghats fill up. If you live in the older areas, such as Hatia, Generalganj or Birhana Road, book a slot away from the procession, or pick another day that week. On Diwali and through the wedding season, weekend evenings go quickly, so reserve them early.

In December and January, fog can slow the roads in the morning, and from April to June the setup belongs indoors, away from sunny windows.

Getting a Same-Day Setup in Kanpur

Book two to three hours before the slot and we can usually be there the same day. Slots run from 9 AM to 11 PM in two-hour windows for most designs. For a surprise at midnight, choose 9 PM to 11 PM so the room is ready well before twelve.

Setup Day and Booking in Kanpur

Clear the wall, keep a chair for our decorator, or a ladder if the ceiling is taller than ten feet, and have a socket or extension cord close by; if it is a hotel room, clear it with the hotel first. Most homes need one decorator and a hall needs two, with about 45 minutes for a wall and up to 90 for a full backdrop. If a colour has run out, our decorator phones you to pick another before starting. The balloons are yours to keep, the rented props are collected the next day, and a hair dryer loosens any tape that sticks.

Select a design, a date and a slot, and pay online, fully or 50% for a home setup. Add a cake or flowers to the order, and send us a room photo on WhatsApp if you would like a suggestion.
